Fishing

Common species

Anglers on Grand Lac Rond generally target the following species:

  • Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass: Very common, with several reported catches of 3 to 4 lbs.

  • Pike: abundant and relatively easy to catch.

  • Lake trout: present but caught less frequently.

  • Yellow perch and possibly walleye: depending on stocking history.

Popular methods: casting spoons, spinners and crankbaits near weed beds or submerged structures.

Fishing license

Residents and non-residents of Quebec must hold a sport fishing license . Licenses are available for:

  • a full year,

  • three days, or

  • one day.

They can be purchased online or at some local outlets .

Important: The use of live baitfish (e.g., minnows) is prohibited in Quebec . Worms, leeches, insects, and frogs are permitted, but some may require a hunting license.

Best practices
  • Ice Safety: Always check the thickness of the ice before venturing out.

  • Access: The lake is public, but some access points may pass through private land.

  • Environmental Protection: The Grand Lac Rond Association encourages the preservation of shorelines and natural habitats.

  • Fish consumption: In general, Quebec fish are safe to eat, but it is recommended to limit the consumption of large predators (such as pike) due to mercury levels.

  • Licenses: Always carry your fishing license with you — inspections may occur.

  • Catch and size limits: These vary by species and area. Consult Quebec's current sport fishing regulations for your area.
